I have been informed by employees that all of their bread is dipped in egg. Very disappointing.

I would check with the nutritional ingredients list just to be sure because I don’t think that is true. Are you talking about all the bagels…?

Tm a baker there. That is false. only some items are egg washed..and only one type of bread and rolls.

I actually asked for their nutritional sheets on their breads and they all contained whey…. which I wasn’t aware of. Well at least the ones in Canada contain whey.

FYI, you can modify any sandwich/salad on the menu to suit your needs. I do this all the time. I get their spinach power salad without eggs and bacon and add avacado.

that’s why they said without pesto

Every time I ask if I can get the soup without pesto I’m told “no”.

          January 08, 2015 at 4:28 pm

All their soup is premade yo. They can’t just take it out.

I work at panera. The pesto is added on to the soup after its poured onto the desired amount. If a employee tells you no, ask to speak to a manager. The employees aren’t allowed to say no unless its really not possible.

FYI, Pepsi is not at all vegan. In fact, disturbingly, one of their additives that was recently approved by the FDA is synthesised from aborted fetal tissue.

No way that’s true. Where did you hear this?

  7. megan watson

    May 04, 2014 at 12:03 am

Panera has an ingredients book available to view stocked at every register. You just need to ask to see it.

A vegan sandwich available with modifications would be the Mediterranean veggie sandwich (tomato, cucumber, red onion, cilantro hummus) WITHOUT FETA and on a bread mentioned above list such as ciabatta or semolina sesame. The tomato bread that it normally is served on contains honey. Also, check the soups menu calendar to see which soup is being offered that day. Black bean is not offered every day and is often served opposite days than the veggie soup.

So disappointing, Got a gift card for my birthday. Called the restaurant and was told nothing is vegan. And after reading these reviews I don’t know what to believe.

Mark, which Panera did you call? I am a shift supervisor at the Panera in my town and I can confirm that we do have vegan options. My store is a franchise however, so some of our products are a little different than other stores. We keep a nutrition information book on-hand in every store so if you have concerns about anything just ask to see it. 🙂

I think that it may have been a case of people not knowing exactly what “vegan” means.
Many people who eat the SAD have no clue what you’re talking about. I’ve had to explain what vegans do and don’t eat at several places.

I inquired about their new broth bowls. Here is their response:

    Hi Greg,

I’ll be happy to share more details about our new Broth Bowls. Our Soba Noodle Bowl with Edamame and our Lentil Quinoa Bowl with Cage-Free Egg are both made without meat ingredients (of course, if your vegetarianism excludes eggs from your diet, the Lentil Quinoa bowl no longer applies). The broth itself used in our Broth Bowls is vegetarian — while it contains worcestershire sauce, the sauce we use does not contain anchovies.

Before trying our Broth Bowls, please review the full ingredient list to ensure it fits with your dietary restrictions. We post this information publicly as transparency is incredibly important to us at Panera Bread. Each bakery-cafe has a nutrition and ingredients manual available upon request. Nutrition information and complete ingredients are also available on our website, http://www.panerabread.com, under the “Menu Items” link. Once you’ve selected a Category (Broth Bowls, Pastries and Sweets, etc.) then please click on the specific menu item you’re interested in. Some nutritional details (calories, fat, sodium, etc.) will appear as well as a detailed ingredient list. You can also view our full nutritional information .pdf here: https://www.panerabread.com/content/dam/panerabread/documents/nutrition/Panera-Nutrition.pdf.

I hope this is helpful! We want your visit to Panera Bread to be warm and relaxing with friendly service and deliciously handcrafted food you can enjoy and feel good about. I hope you’ll visit again soon and give us another chance to share the Panera warmth. Is there anything else I can help you with, Greg?

    Sincerely,

    Chrissy

The FRENCH BAGUETTE and the CIABATTA is NOT VEGAN –
They contain distilled monoglycerides which is ANIMAL FAT

    • Ralph R.

      February 03, 2017 at 1:40 am

I call BS on this claim… monoglycerides can be made from both animal fats and vegetable oils. It’s just like soaps… soaps can be either vegan or non-vegan depending on whether the oil/fat came from a plant/animal. If you want this claim to stand, you need to cite some facts/evidence.

I just went to Panera to order a broth bowl and I was told the broths are made with chicken broth and that the egg is already cooked into the broth, they told me the egg could be removed but there would be no point in it if I’m vegan 🙁 I was very disappointed to hear this.

According to their ingredients on the Garden Vegetable it contains milk so definitely not Vegan. So disappointed in Panera will not be going there.

Panera bread has curated menus on their website, one of which is vegan. It is a very short list but at least you can be sure: https://www.panerabread.com/en-us/featured-menu/curated-menus.html#Vegan

The garden vegetable soup is not vegan (even without the pesto) THE NOODLES IN IT ARE MADE FROM EGG. I work at panera and have read the ingredients book as well as the recipe.

diet pepsi isnt vegan though, but the company wont say what makes it non vegan. they claim that diet pepsi is vegetarian friendly, so that leaves me to believe something in it has dairy. https://www.google.com/amp/www.cosmopolitan.com/uk/worklife/news/amp50405/diet-pepsi-non-vegan-ingredients/
