Okay… so some things at McDonald’s are gluten free… thanks… but… how gluten free are they? For instance, what guarantee do I have the my bunless burger hasn’t been made on the same cutting board that the other sandwiches that are not gluten free have been sliced or made on? Or, how much can I trust that the person behind the counter who is waiting on me has not been touching things made with flour before she came to get my gluten free stuff..?
There is so much more to being gluten free than just the food you eat… It’s sometimes about the proximity of gluten that is worrying. I don’t choose to be gluten free, I have no choice… I would rather it was a choice because then I might not have to worry about how much gluten is near my gluten free food… and how it will affect me.

Ethel I have worked in the food industry and also happen to have a 5 y/o son that was recently diagnosed with Celiac disease. If you have been definitively diagnosed with Celiac, I would not trust any outside kitchen to cook your food unless it is a FULLY GLUTEN FREE KITCHEN. The risk of cross contamination is just too great. If it is just a “possible intolerance” you would probably be okay.
Jill
I’m happy to answer!
* The cutting board is NOT gluten-free! I repeat; not gluten-free! (I couldn’t resist) 🐱🌼 You want to notice the kitchen is completely cross contaminating. Food service is open for them to assemble, it clearly states in writing. I prefer gluten-free to.

I work at a McDonald’s just tell them your gluten free and to change gloves. The bread is not cook with any meat. They but all products on the wrapper they wrap with. So the meat will never Touch The same thing the bread dose. I’m allergic to gluten and enhance product. My McDonald’s is lucky to have all natural Meet. I always order just the meat, cheese , Lettuce and anything else. I always have them change gloves before they mess with my food. The French fries I would not eat no we do not mix anything with them. They have there own fryer but what it’s made out of I would not trust it.
All restaurants are different but if you let them know your allergic And they need to do this They will I’m not going to say there not going to rant to people back there but they will do it. I work there and the rant and laugh at me when they make my food but we all are friends and they like picking on me lol
Pam
I don’t see any mention of the paper straws containing gluten, which they do. Much safer to eat at home!

Fruit and Maple Oatmeal is gluten free? Don’t think so! I highly doubt McDonald’s gets certified gluten free oatmeal. Is oatmeal naturally GF? Yes. Does cross contamination occur is the harvesting process? Yes! There are only a couple companies that sell certified GF oatmeal. Do your research before advising people with Cealic Disease. #glutendude #glutenfreewatchdog These two sites are legit.

Most of the restaurants that say their food is gluten free really mean they are gluten friendly. In other words, they have gluten free food but they cannot guarantee it is not contaminated. If you have Celiac Disease like I do, this is not good enough. But, if you are only choosing to be gf, than, mostly this is okay for you. For me, gluten is poison and there is no way I can say that gluten friendly is good enough.
Also… it is my understanding that ice cream is not gf so I can’t eat it. There is gf ice cream but it costs the earth.. almost $9 for about a cup! I do really miss ice cream…!
M
Most ice cream are naturally gluten free. My son is able to eat it.
Jerry Knobbe
bryers ice cream is gluten free and has some flavors that are loctose free Hy Vee and Fareway have printed that their ice cream is gluten free I have eaten all 3 and have no problems
Evan
I buy Breyers ice cream. They produce a couple of flavors that are Gluten Free. Priced the same as the non-Gluten free flavors.
Kim
There is gluten free ice cream that you can buy at the grocery store. Most of them are gluten free but I know that the store brands and Blue Bunny ice cream is not gluten free

FYI The McDonald’s french fries in Canada are different and do not contain wheat ingredients. I’ve had them on several occasions without issues
AlohaSB
The issue is the shared frier. Also used to fry chicken nuggets (breaded) and fish filets (breaded).
James
McDonald’s fries are so popular, you won’t see them using that fryer for anything but fries since it’s ALWAYS full of fries. Usually you’d be correct, not at McD’s.
Melissa
The bbq sauce contains wheat as well
Haley
The sweet and sour sauce does as well 🙁

I too have Celiac….I have eaten the French fries at our McDonald’s here in Northern New York and have no issue…I have spoke with the manager’s themselves and they too have looked on the cases and there is no gluten….
I am very careful where I eat out….95% of my time I cook at home because I too do not want to be contaminated ….My family is very well aware and besides my husband brushes his teeth and washes his hands and face before coming in contact with me…We just took our granddaughters today and all I had there were fries…I do not feel ill at all or tired….So therefore I do believe they are gluten free…
Selma
No mcdonalds fries are in no way gluten free whatsoever. McDonald’s states it right in its allergen chart. What you “feel” has nothing to do with facts or evidence. Stop informing people incorrectly.

My daughter works at the one in Rochester,NY and it says right on the label made with wheat starch, they might not affect you at first but in the long run they will and every little bit of wheat you intake does do some damage to your intestines. Been a celiac for over 16 years and very sensitive to the littlest bit of wheat just becareful.
Ellen
In CANADA, the fires are gluten free. They aren’t coated with wheat starch and are fried separately. In Europe there are many GF items available. This listing should reflect that it is US information.
Isabella Morell
I do not think the fries are gluten-free because they fry it with other things that can contain gluten. Therefore I do not agree that McDonald’s is gluten-free or has anything gluten-free because the “Gluten-Free” things the have there could have touched something with gluten and you can’t just go in the kitchen and watch them make your food. Also if you have celiac like I do you have to be very careful about these things and watch what you are eating because if you don’t have celiac disease and you are just gluten-free it isn’t that big of a deal if you eat a bit of something that has gluten but for people who have celiac disease it is very important to NOT eat gluten whatsoever!
Nicole
McDonald’s in Canada have a dedicated fryer for French fries. I can eat them without insident. Do not eat them anywhere outside of Canada.
Janice
Why can’t we get the same
French fries as Canada gets and also why are there no gluten free buns. I too thought French fries were safe but after not eating them in years I decided to get them. I got sick an hour after I ate them. I’ve been diagnosed with celiac disease over 7 yrs ago and really never eat out here in NY unless they have dedicated kitchen.
Val
Mcdonalds only has rubbish for coeliacs, never go there and nor do children for parties with coeliac disease. You can try ordering gluten free but there is no guarantee what crap they serve up is gluten free. Any decent cafe can produce heaLTHY GLUTEN FREE options but not Maccas, Hungry Jacks and Subway. It’s all fat, sugar, sodium and gluten. Who wants a burger in a piece of lettuce? Nobody. Even the fries are cooked in the same friers as gluten loaded food. Never touch the crap. Go to a small cafe and they will accomodate. Maccas too big and too one size fits all…..NOT!!!!! Yes you can have sugar loaded sweets only!!!!
Ally
Double check stuff for gluten such as cross contamination, also if you’re gluten free you can’t have wheat, rye , barley or oats
Reanne
Both the BBQ sauce and Sweet and Sour sauce at McDonald’s contain wheat.

McDonald’s suck for nothing “gluten free”
I was so surprised they don’t have salads anymore!
They don’t offer gluten free buns!
No fries! I have two of my grown kids that can eat there!
Probably the only fast food chain that doesn’t give a shit for people that are celiac! So this chain is banned from our family!
